What can I expect to gain from attending The Driver's Edge event?

A higher level of driving, a new appreciation for your car, a driving awareness that you didn't know existed.

Briefly describe The Driver's Edge event outline?

The day starts out with driver's meeting. Drivers are then placed into 4 different levels of run groups. Each run group has instructional classes throughout each day in-between their 8 on-track run sessions over the course of the weekend. Each time a Novice or Intermediate driver goes on the track they will have an assigned instructor seated beside them for live feedback, evaluation, guidance, instruction  and safety. Drivers have described The Driver's Edge events as an intense learning experience with seamless organization, fun and challenging learning environment, and control in a safe manner.

When do I need to arrive?

Note: Event Sign-in & Novice Drivers' Meeting held in the Driver's Edge hotel of choice or race track meeting room the Friday night before the event. All Drivers can Sign-in that Friday night. First-time drivers should attend a Friday night novice drivers' meeting. While this meeting is not mandatory, it's highly recommended and will speed up the learning curve for first-time drivers, all participants are welcome. All drivers must be at the track 7:00 am on Saturday and Sunday to ensure they and their guests sign the required insurance waivers, and their car is prepared for the track. The first drivers' meeting of the day begins at 7:45 AM at the track.

When is the safety inspection?

A qualified technician must complete the Tech-inspection within the 30 days preceding the event. A second Safety Inspection Verification may be done at the track. At registration you must present your Inspection form and a copy of your valid driver's license and proof of insurance if you did not already fax or mail them in. All race cars are required to have current log books instead of tech forms.

What if my car doesn't pass the Safety Verification?

You can't drive on the track. Our safety standards are enforced to ensure each participant's safety and enjoyment.

Why are there passing zones?

This is a high performance-driving event, not a racing event. The passing zones are tightly controlled so that the risk of car-to-car contact is eliminated. The passing zones exist so that faster drivers have a safe area to execute a pass.

What if I want to drive my car without an instructor?

Unless you are assigned to the Advanced run group, you will not be allowed to drive on the track without an instructor until you signed off solo. This helps ensure overall safety and provides you with the maximum opportunity to learn from a very accomplished driver. Certain students do receive a sign-off from their instructor to go solo, but only after the instructor has ridden with the student and is confident of his or her ability to drive the car safely, at higher speeds, alone.

How are run groups assigned?

Run groups are based on first and foremost student experience, then car performance capabilities and total event demographics. A good driver makes a slow car fast.

What should I wear while driving?

Open face or full face SNELL 1995 or newer rated helmet, Rentals available for $20, Cotton or Denim shirt and long pants. Select a "breathable" cotton or wool fabric, no man made fabric. Note: summer events we allow shorts.  Thin-soled sneakers; no waffle soles...nothing big and bulky. In between driving sessions, you may want to change into more comfortable clothing, such as shorts and T-shirt. Rest rooms & changing rooms are available at the track. Drivers of race cars with roll cages are required to wear a minimum single-layer suit.

Will race fuel and tire services and mechanics be available at the track?

YES on all three…

Will my insurance cover any damage to my car?

This depends on the insurance carrier and your policy. Many policies remain in force as long as the car is not used in a speed timed event or competitive event.*** This is a non-timed, non-competitive event.

Does my non-street legal racecar need insurance?

No. Only street legal cars are required to have proof of insurance.
